About

SDC logo

Fusion 2024 Student Design Challenge (SDC) is a competitive event that showcases students’ problem-solving and design abilities in proposing solutions for real-world issues facing our nation and the world. It highlights the core of designing and building prototypes with a user-centric approach while tackling significant global concerns identified in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It encourages students to look into innovative solutions that not only improve user experiences but also help to create a more sustainable and inclusive world. The subject focuses on the junction of technology, design thinking, and social responsibility. This competition is organized by the Kuala Lumpur ACM SIGCHI chapter or myHCI-UX in conjunction with FUSION2024.

Theme

This year’s SDC theme “Innovating for Sustainable Futures: Human-Centric Solutions for Global Impact” provides the chance for our young minds to imagine ideas and realize solutions that help sustain the future of our world. We are looking for ideas and solutions that answer the 17 UN Sustainable Design Goals (SDG) call for action, especially those in the theme that would be in the interest of young people in Malaysia and around the world – Quality Education (SDG #4), Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG #6), Affordable & Clean Energy (SDG #7) and Life Below Water (SDG #14). Other SDGs can be taken into consideration.

Fusion 2024 SDC invites students (undergraduate & postgraduate) from various design and technology backgrounds (e.g. HCI; industrial, product, visual, interaction design; computer science; information technology; etc.) currently enrolled in a Malaysia-based institution to contribute to this call and join the competition. (Students enrolled in universities outside Malaysia are also welcome, but must collaborate (be in a team) with Malaysia-based university students.)
